"When a child learns, communities benefit, lives change"
Global Family is MCC's education support program. Through the program, donors support a specific community-based program or school, choosing from approximately 100 programs meeting local education needs in over 40 countries. Sponsorship with Global family costs $300 per year, which adds up to less than $1 a day! Once you've chosen a program, you can choose to pay monthly ($25), quarterly ($75), twice a year.
Examples of projects:
Kenya: "Learning Ways" - A training program for teachers to help them learn differentiated teaching techniques. These tools are now helping teachers work better with at-risk students in Nairobi.
Palestine: "Shoroq wa-Amal" (Sunrise and Hope) - A Community Centre for children in Gaza that offers a safe, nurturing environment for the many children that have been traumatized from the Israeli attacks on Gaza in 2008-2009. The centre offers such classes as creative writing, arts, theatre, cooking, as well as remedial and supplemental education programs.
Burkina Faso: “ASAD” (Action Sida des Assemblies de Dieu/AIDS Action Association of the Assemblies of God in Church) - helps children orphaned due to the AIDS pandemic with school (fees, uniforms, supplies), food and medical costs.
China: “Dazhou Children’s Speech and Hearing Kindergarten” in Sichuan province – provides intensive speech therapy training for 45 preschool children with hearing deficits.
Laos: "Peacebuilders" - peace training program for young adults and teachers. Those who have attended the program share their skills with more than 300 high school students using a curriculum developed by the group
Ukraine: “Family-type Childrens’ Homes”. Natasha Nniklaenko, of the Sokolovskaya Baptist Church, has welcomed six foster children into her home to provide love and care. Global Family funds support Natasha and the church in renovating a little house for this ministry, defraying costs of food, education, transportation for medical care, medicine and other costs.
Jordon: "Arab Episcopal School" - The only school in Northern Jordan that provides integrated education for visually impaired, low vision and sighted students.
Currently, there are 240 people in Alberta who support Global Family. To join this group or to learn more visit globalfamily.mcc.org or contact MCC Alberta's Global Family Coordinator:
