Cycle for Life: Build Peace, Stop AIDS

Help build Peace in Kenya and raise funds for the HIV/AIDS work of Mennonite Central Committee by supporting Cycle for Life: Build Peace, Stop AIDS.

The Alberta portion of Cycle for Life has just finished! We are at the MCC Summerfest in Sherwoood Park, and rode in the bike-a-thon on July 8.  Our final mileage was 1496km, and so far $237,500 has been raised!  Thank you to all of our sponsors, and everyone who donated, prayed and followed our progress . Click here to read blog updates from Abe Kim and Adam, see pictures from the ride, and more!

This two part initiative will kick off with a 5 day bike tour in Kenya with 5 North American riders (including 5-time Olympic medalist Cindy Klassen) and 10 Kenyan peace workers. MCC's Kenyan partner, the Lari Memorial Peace Museum, invited the cyclists to ride in Kenya to raise the profile of the work being done to overcome the wounds and conflict of Kenya’s violent history. The experiences and stories emerging from the ride will be captured in a video.

Next, after returning to North America, John and Adam Beriault will cycle from La Crete, in Northern Alberta, to Sherwood Park (near Edmonton) a distance of 750 km, and then travel to Coaldale (in southern Alberta) and ride north, again ending in Sherwood Park, but this time joining up with the MCC Relief Sale fundraiser (www.mccreliefsale.org).  The total distance of the ride will be aproximately 1500 km.  All money raised will support Mennonite Central Committee’s HIV/AIDS care, prevention and education work.
